After three long days of deploying instruments on the beach, it was time to start measuring! The weather conditions were very mild in the first week, low waves and high temperatures, which was great for deploying the instruments and for the students to get familiar with their daily routine for the coming weeks.
Due to these conditions the beach profile was steepening as sandbars move onshore. These dynamics are an example of what we are aiming to study in this fieldwork. But this also means that the height of the instruments have to be adjusted daily. Actually, within this first week, some instruments had to be dug out already!
At the end of the week, we collected the first data which showed that all the instruments are working properly. This is of course very good news!
Later this week you will read more details about the measurements we will be gathering during MegaPEX2014.
